One talks about the umbrella effect &#8211; when we protect an umbrella species, we thereby protect several other species. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"4tv8u\" data-offset-key=\"5p5bk-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"5p5bk-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"5p5bk-0-0\">An umbrella species can be both animals and plants &#8211; the most well-known are giant pandas, elephants and jaguars. What characterizes them is (mainly) their need for large areas to find food and suitable mates. The larger space they need, the more animals and plants benefit from the protection created for them. \ud83c\udf33<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"4tv8u\" data-offset-key=\"f874s-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"f874s-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"f874s-0-0\">By protecting rhinos and elephants, we contribute to the protection of thousands of other species.
