Here’s an article for my Swedish followers, with a link to one of our major newspapers\u00a0Dagens Nyheter\u00a0<\/a>which today highlights the fact that the opinions about how to handle the severe and on going poaching crises\u00a0are very\u00a0scattered from one\u00a0African country to another.<\/p>\n

Legal and regulated trade that provides vital income to poor countries – or a total prohibition of all handling of ivory and rhino horn is a main issue at the current COP17<\/strong> meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. During this meeting world nation’s leaders meet to review the\u00a0CITES<\/a>\u00a0agreement which regulates the international trade in endangered species; both animals and plats.<\/p>\n

Its truly a good thing this issue gets put into the light because\u00a0while this questions is being discussed in the board room the animals are dying rapidly. According to a new report that was released last week, 100,000 elephants have been\u00a0killed by illegal poaching in Africa in only 10 years (2006-2015). Along with elephants one of the by poaching most threatened species is the rhino.<\/p>\n
