During the third quarter of this year, the female Akashinga rangers patrolled over 5,400 km by foot to cover and protect vast ecosystems in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. They conducted 574 patrols and participated in 18 operations with local authorities, which resulted in 46 arrests of individuals suspected of poaching and illegal wildlife trade and the confiscation of:
2 pangolins (both alive and reintroduced to the wild), 5 axes, 3 bows and 15 arrows, 2 knives, 67 steel traps. 4,400 m of fishnet, 600 m of twine net, 12 fishing boats, 10 kg of fish, and multiple snares

Additionally, 67 human-wildlife conflicts were mitigated involving species such as hyenas, elephants, and buffalo. Together with our implementing partner organisations, we now protect 1.5 million hectares of wilderness across three countries, including 65 km of coastline and sea. Ecosystems that are home to thousands of species of wildlife, trees and plants that sequester 6 million tons of carbon dioxide each year.
Thank you for making this work possible. We couldn’t do it without you! 💚
